7A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1

A customizable variety subscription box The who: People who want to subscribe or already subscribe to subscription boxes.  The what : A customizable subscription box that offers a variety of contents. You can choose from lifestyle, makeup, entertainment, food, clothing, and more with each box. The why : People have multiple subscription boxes to different companies and may get surplus of things they don’t need. Testing the who : Everyone in my current "who” will share this need. Testing the what : What brands would be included in this box? How many options would there be to choose from?  Testing the why : People may be loyal to their subscription boxes they already have. They may also wonder why they would want to subscribe to yet another box, but the answer is simple—variety. Why not roll all their favorite things into one?    My Hypothesis: An opportunity exists for a variety subscription box that is completely customizable. My prototypical custome...

6A – Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends

Economic Trends Subscription box services a)      I found this on https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/323660 , and it mentioned how this industry is growing by 1% a month. Growth means opportunity. b)     In addition to its growth, subscription boxes cover so many avenues. There is food, beauty, apparel, even pet subscription boxes. c)      There is something for everyone so ANYONE can be the customer. d)     It is very easy to exploit, because you can advertise on social media platforms, television, print, and even word of mouth. I saw this as an opportunity because there is always something new you can come up with to create a new type of subscription box. While others may just think there are already a ton of different subscription boxes, they wouldn’t be able to come up with an idea for a box that hasn’t already been created—but you can make your OWN box. You can personalize your subscription box...

5A – Identifying Local Opportunities

Local task force to create fall reopening plants for Marion schools There are many hurdles that are facing the school districts. The question of when and how to reopen are the big question. Many parents are pushing for schools to reopen for sports and band practice; however, the schools are treading cautiously because they want to do so safely. They need time to train staff on how to establish social distancing, and other covid-19 directives. The problem presented in the story is how to safely reopen schools, not just for extracurricular activities but also for the 2020-2021 school year. The whole community has the problem, teachers who would be taking on an extra workload, and parents who have their own jobs they have to get back to rather than homeschool their children. Back to school? 1 in 5 teachers are unlikely to return to reopened classrooms this fall, poll says There are a significant number of teachers who state they will not be re...

4A-Forming An Opportunity Belief

By now we all know staying home, and social distancing are the best ways to help “flatten the curve” of coronavirus. Many people are growing tired of staying home all the time, and they want to return to life as they once knew it without those pesky masks and cross-contaminating gloves. But how? The opportunity that exists here is THE CURE. A vaccination, much like the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella). This vaccination offers very low, if any, side effects and can make you immune to this highly contagious virus that affects EVERYONE. I am 99% sure that this opportunity exists (because nothing in life is ever 100%. Although this virus is not even a year old it has infected over 5 million people, and tragically taken the lives of over 330,000 people worldwide. So, the prototypical customer: everyone. Iteration No. 1: Amber, 26-year-old female who suffers severe asthma and a comprimised immuned system. Ambers main concern when it came to COVID-19 was that either herself or her fathe...

3A- My Entrepreneurship Story

Image
Hello everyone!  I have been exposed to entrepreneurship since my childhood. My dad had a couple of small “businesses” when I was in elementary school. He ventured into the vending business as well as house flipping (before it was cool). All the while he was also working as a supervisor through the UAW. He was a busy man! In 2003 my dad left behind the UAW and his other small businesses and bought a pizza parlor. This is where he started his first small family business. I remember going to work with my dad and “working” there as my first job. A couple years later he opened up another pizza restaurant. Those family businesses are what supported my family through my middle school and high school years. I’ve seen the good and the bad small business owners go through, and it is something I commend them on. I have a couple friends who own their own clothing boutiques as well a small furniture store, and their job seems exciting and fun. However, suprisingly, it is not something I'm r...
