15A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 2

Interviewee #1 Paul (never a subscription box subscriber)          Paul stated that if he was going to compare my subscription box to others, he would be looking at both the price and quality. Price would be the biggest factor and Paul stated that he would tend to go with the cheapest option. Once he receives the box, he would judge the purchase based on the contents that he received. Is he actually going to use these items or are there some he doesn’t particularly care for? If he has items he doesn’t like, then his purchase would be deemed as a bad idea. Interviewee #2 Zachary (current subscription box subscriber)          Zachary always uses social media influencers and advertisements when he is comparing boxes. He states that if he sees multiple social media influencers that he follows on social media then he is more likely to want that box over another box. He also mentioned that advertising, a...

14A – Halfway Reflection

1)   Some behaviors that I have developed to keep up with the requirements of this course is just planning and organizing and then making sure I stick to it. I utilize my planner a lot more than I have in the past. I basically preplan the week out and try to work on this course the same two days each week, developing consistency. 2)   A remember a couple of weeks ago I had over 15 assignments due that week and two exams.   I felt so overwhelmed and had just gotten a bad grade on an exam the week before so I felt defeated. I then remembered how far I have come, and how I wasn’t going to throw it all away because of one bad test score, and one week of an overload of assignments. I had a couple long nights, but I pushed through thinking of the end goal—my bachelor’s degree. I do feel like I have developed a tenacious attitude over these last two months because I got into my “dream” school. Before I wasn’t really taking college that seriously, but now that I am attending...

13A – Reading Reflection No. 1

In, “The Wright Brothers”, by David McCullough I was most surprised to hear that the brothers became entrepreneurs in their 30s. They were living at home, and Wilbur hadn’t even begun his university career. I always think that I need to accomplish all of my goals by the time I’m thirty, but it’s nice to be reminded that you don’t need to have your life together before you hit that age. I admired Wilbur the most because despite his misfortunes with his accident he was able to turn that down time into something incredible. He educated himself in aviation and essentially began the path of leading to creating the first motor operated airplane. I also admired that both brothers were determined and hardworking. The thing that I least admired about Wilbur is that he was more serious and didn’t really seem to enjoy life by relaxing and living in the moment, he was always just working and planning what to do next. Both the Wright brothers encountered failure when they developed the Wright Flye...

12A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

Segment: The segment I am focusing on is current subscription box subscribers.   Awareness:     Kayla: She notices the issue of having multiple subscriptions on the last day of every month, when all of her subscriptions come out at the same time and she looks at her bank account. She debates on cancelling one of them to save $25+ a month but she is too indecisive on which one she will actually cancel because she uses products from all of them.             April: She notices the issue of unused products she receives from her ipsy box. More often she finds herself only actually using one item a month that she gets—and it’s the one she chooses herself each month. She notices this when she puts away the items that she got and doesn’t want into storage with all the other unused items she has gotten in the past.             Kaitlin: Kaitlin notices the...

11A – Idea Napkin No. 1

1)     I don’t have many talents, if any at all. I was never really good at anything besides shopping and gossiping. In all seriousness if I had to pick a talent of mine it would be multitasking. I have gone and still go to school full time while also working full time and I have two children to add into that mix. I am a bartender and restaurant manager and transferred to UF with a 3.9 GPA—which I’m pretty darn proud of. Having worked in a restaurant for 10+ years and having been a part of a family pizzeria business I have my fair share of how restaurants run/work. My aspirations are to become a successful financial analyst or financial manager (still undecided). If I were to actually start a business with this subscription box, I see it tying perfectly well into my hectic crazy life. At that point I would be done with school and I would also be “unemployed” so all of my time would be devoted to my family and the business. It would be like how I grew up, watching my pare...

10A – Elevator Pitch No. 1

Enjoy my awkwardness: P.S. I watched Professor Pryor's videos after  I had already made this video 10+ times and heard that we are not  supposed to introduce ourselves.

9A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Who: This product has a wide spectrum of people that fall outside the boundary. This would be the elderly and the poor. The elderly fall outside the boundary because they are not tech-savvy. I interviewed some people over the age of 65 and none of them knew what subscription boxes were. Once I explained what they were, they showed little interest. They also have minimal knowledge of using the internet, so having this “customizable” box where the customer logs on to the internet each month and selects products doesn’t really appeal to someone who doesn’t really know how to use the internet. The others that I interviewed would be considered “living in poverty”. They do not have very much disposable income. While they all knew what subscription boxes were none of them would be willing to sign up for one. They declined for similar reasons, essentially all being "because I live paycheck to paycheck". Although $20-$30 doesn’t seem like much to the majority of us, it is to them. To...

8A – Solving The Problem

The solution to the problem I identified in my previous posts is going to be the product I expand on throughout this course. In addition to my own personal feelings, the feedback I got from my peers and interviewees made me excited to select this product. My selected opportunity is going to be the annoyances and defaults that come along with having multiple subscription boxes and/or receiving boxes that contain items that the customer will never use or try. Basically, why pay $25+ a month for several boxes in which you only acutally use one or two of the products contained in each box. Roll it all into one afforable variety box and save money and dissappointment.  The product I am selecting is going to be a customizable variety subscription box. This subscription box will offer a wide variety of different types of items that consumers get to choose monthly. They will have a certain number of selectable items to choose for each box. They can mix and match from different ca...
