8A – Solving The Problem

The solution to the problem I identified in my previous posts is going to be the product I expand on throughout this course. In addition to my own personal feelings, the feedback I got from my peers and interviewees made me excited to select this product.

My selected opportunity is going to be the annoyances and defaults that come along with having multiple subscription boxes and/or receiving boxes that contain items that the customer will never use or try. Basically, why pay $25+ a month for several boxes in which you only acutally use one or two of the products contained in each box. Roll it all into one afforable variety box and save money and dissappointment.

The product I am selecting is going to be a customizable variety subscription box. This subscription box will offer a wide variety of different types of items that consumers get to choose monthly. They will have a certain number of selectable items to choose for each box. They can mix and match from different categories containing different items. This will ensure the customer knows what they are getting and what they are paying for. This not only makes my box desirable to consumers but also to product suppliers. The companies that supply their items to other subscription boxes will now want to supply to mine. This is because they will know that the subscribers to my box actually want to try their product since they choose it, thus in turn giving them a higher number of repeat customers.

  1. Hey Kaylee!

Great product idea. The only comment I have is that you have to have something that sets you apart other than customization. Because most subscription boxes have some form of customization, so what sets yours apart? But I definitely agree that boxes need more than what they're currently giving. Great work!

  2. Hi Kaylee,

I really enjoy this idea. Subscription businesses are super hot right now, and everybody and their sister are laser-focused on recurring revenue. I agree with the problem, people often enjoy the 'surprise,' but then find that they only enjoy surprises if they end up with something they like. Paying for a surprise that you don't like doesn't make sense.

  3. Hey Kaylee,
Great work. I believe customers and fans of your variety subscription box will find added value in the fact that they are able to customize the box to fit their desires. I also like the fact that you are not limited to one particular category of items much like how clothing box subscriptions only give you clothing. Great job!
